Pentajazz

Pentajazz
Different uses of pentatonic scales for an immediate and creative approach to
the jazz.
The masterclass is based on "Pentajazz" the Italian
book written by Sestino Macaro and Giovanni Piazza. The masterclass has the
objective to allow an elementary but direct approach, an "immersion"
in the jazz language guaranteed by the choice of well delineated fields of action.
This is possible by using the pentatonic scales and the barred Orff instruments:
glockenspieles, metallophones and xylophones that can be easily predisposed
in different pentatonic scales. With the inimitable consequence to offer to
the player a range of notes that "it doesn't allow errors."
General objectives:
a) to allow an easy, immediate and intuitive approach to the sound of the jazz
language.
b) to train the jazz improvvisation with integrated activity of song, improvisation
and body percussion.
Activities:
a) improvise with barred Orff intruments on typical jazz harmonies, recorded
or played with the piano, using different pentatonic scale selected by criterions
of tonal relationship.
b) play simple jazz harmonies with the barred instruments applying the technique
of the harmonization for groups.
c) improvise with the barred Orff instruments both the harmonies and the melodies.
Duration: 10 hours.
The masterclass is for teachers of music in the primary and secondary schools,
operators and musical animators.
